Toffee Thomas is the world champion of nose pickers. Every single day at school he uses every single finger of both hands to zip in and out of his nostrils at lightning speed. He even uses his pinkie fingers. Heâs actually pretty amazing to watch. Itâs as if heâs conducting an orchestra, or playing the piano, but the keys are up his nostrils. And he must get at least a bowl full of snot out each day.
Jared and I think if he falls over in soccer, or even just lightly bumps his head, his brain is going to smash into a bazillion bits because it wonât have any brain-booga protection at all.
The other morning, Crabby Abbey was sitting next to Thomas in math class and Mr. Haych stomped in the door and slapped a surprise test on our desks. With only two seconds left before we had to start, Abbey threw her arm up in the air and complained, âMy pencil broke.â In a flash, Thomas threw out his arm in her direction. âHere you are,â he said, offering her his spare pencil. Abbey was so focused on the test paper in front of her that without thinking, she reached out and took the pencil from Toffeeâs hand â well, she tried to.
The moment she grabbed it, she realized what sheâd done, but it was too late. A massive green elastic booga stretched between her hand and Toffeeâs as she pulled the pencil toward her. With a look of absolute shock and horror, she sat there with the pencil right in front of her face. Her eyes slowly followed the line of snot from the pencil all the way back to Toffeeâs hand.
âEeeeee!âAbbey let out one of her earpiercing screams that only dogs and aliens can hear. In the blink of an eye, her hand opened wide to let go of the gross pencil. But it didnât move. Her hand now resembled a slimy, webbed sea monsterâs paw. Abbey went into total, full-scale meltdown. She was so furious and grossed out that she was trying to throw up at the same time as trying to rip Toffeeâs head off, slap it around, and kick it to the moon!
Abbey was shaking her hand around like some sort of crazy mechanical flyswatter, desperately trying to get the pencil off her one hand without touching it with the other. But like a snot boomerang, every time Abbey shook her hand downward the pencil went flying out of her hand, back along the snot-line toward Toffee, and then twang, shot back toward her again. Over and over, she shook her hand trying to dislodge the pencil. Every time, it flew a little further, but it always returned to her hand. It looked like she was trying to do a magic trick â just not a very good one!
